Fourni (Fourni Korseon) is a small archipelago among the North-East Aegean islands between Ikaria and Samos, made up of the main island, Thymaina and several islets. The name "Korseon" recalls the corsairs who for centuries used its hidden bays as a refuge.
The economy is still tied to fishing: Fourni has one of the most active fishing fleets in the Aegean, and the harbour tavernas are famous for fresh fish and lobster pasta (astakomakaronada). Beaches are small and quiet, such as Psili Ammos, Kampi and Bali, reached on foot or by boat.
Since 2015 underwater surveys around the archipelago have located dozens of shipwrecks, from the archaic period to the 19th century, with cargoes of amphorae: one of the largest known concentrations of ancient wrecks in the Mediterranean, a sign that Fourni was a stopover on routes between the Aegean and the East.
